Now we need Berekum Chelsea to take a cue from Sunshine Stars and at least get a point in Lubumbashi!

Sunshine shut out Etoile
By MTNFootball.com
Sunday Jul 22, 01:20 +0200

Sunshine striker Ajani Ibrahim Nigeria’s Sunshine Stars drew 0-0 with Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia Saturday night to earn their first point in the CAF Champions League.

Defending champions Esperance still lead Group A with six points from two matches after their 3-2 home win over Aso Chlef from Algeria on Friday.

Etoile are second on four points, while Sunshine move into third place on a point.

In a fortnight, Sunshine will host pointless Aso Chlef, while it will be an all-Tunisian derby between Esperance and Etoile.

Sunshine owed their result on the road to some resolute defending as well as some brilliance by goalkeeper Moses Ocheje, who was kept on his toes especially in the first half.

Etoile must rue the many chances they failed to put away inside the Olympic Stadium in Sousse as they also were not clinical in front of goal.

The Nigerian flag bearers looked a lot more purposeful in the second half with Ajani Ibrahim and Sunday Emmanuel putting some pressure on their hosts.

Ajani Ibrahim missed a big chance inside 18-yard box in the 62nd minute, when his left-footed shot after Dele Olorundare set him up missed its mark.

Sunshine were at the receiving end in the first 45 minutes as they recorded just two corner kicks with just one shot on target compared to Etoile’s seven corners and countless attempts at goal.

The one thing Sunshine did right in first half was their compact defending anchored by skipper Godfrey Oboabona, James Ebitogwa, Soga Samba, Alaba Osawe and Ado Ali as they stood firmly to cover for the impressive goalkeeper Ocheje.

Their biggest drawback was that they easily gave away the ball in the midfield after they had fought so hard to win and in attack but for the few scares, Etoile goalkeeper Aymen Mathlouthi was practically on holidays and was not really called upon to make a decent save.

Clottey spoils Mazembe's home party
By MTNFootball.com
Sunday Jul 22, 17:40 +0200

Emmanuel Clottey of Berekum Chelsea Bekerum Chelsea striker Emmanuel Clottey's brace denied hosts TP Mazembe their first CAF Champions League win in a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The 24 year old striker scored his 10th CAF Champions League goal this season away in Lubumbashi to inspire Bekerum from 2-0 at half time to finish level.

Mazembe looked like they were heading to their first Group A win after Tresor Mputu tried to steal the show with his first half brace in the 11th and 32nd minutes to stun the Champions League group stage newcomers.

However, Clottey lived up to his pre-match promise scoring his first from the spot in the 71st minute and earned the point for Bekerum six minutes from time.

Berekum stay top on four points until late Sunday evening ahead of the big Cairo Group A derby between second placed Al Ahly on three points and bottom placed Zamalek.

Zamalek are seeking their first win after losing 3-2 away to Berekum in their opening Group A match on July 7 in Accra in a match Clottey scored a hat trick.
