A pair of Jamesville-DeWitt senior low-post standouts are among the six finalists for the Mr. Basketball Award presented by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.
The Red Rams’ Dajuan Coleman, who will attend Syracuse in the fall, and Tyler Cavanaugh, who has signed with Wake Forest, are on the list of finalists selected by BCANY voters.
They are joined by Reggie Agbeko of Buffalo St. Joe’s, UConn signee Omar Calhoun from Christ the King, Zach Rufer of Burke Catholic (a Lafayette recruit) and Phil Valenti from Aquinas in Rochester (Canisius College).
The three girls finalists are Breanna Stewart of Cicero-North Syracuse, Nicole Bini of Aquinas and Emily Weber of Shenendehowa.
Stewart, a UConn recruit, is widely regarded as a candidate for national player of the year. Bini will continue her career at College of St. Rose, and Weber is bound for Canisius.
You can read biographies of the nine finalists on the BCANY website. The award recipients will be announced next month.
