Banku in action Jan 20
A line-up of six championship bouts will usher Ghana boxing into 2012 action as GoldenMike Promotions Syndicate stages the another Bukom Banku thriller at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday January 20.
SWAG awardee, Banku, aka Braimah Kamoko, defends his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa light-heavyweight title to Kenyan Hamza Wandera in the Ghanaian’s second title defence.
Managers and promoters of the undefeated Banku are targeting a world title proper for the 31-year-old who has risen to the position of Number Three contender to the WBO world title proper, and as they await the green light for the big show, the Sweden-based Wandera (14-3-2, 12KOs) has been drafted in to keep them busy.
On the same bill, Banku’s stable mate and age old friend, Joshua Okine, will fight Namibian Bethuel Ushoona for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title.
The packed event scheduled for the serene environment of the Conference Centre will also feature Emmanuel Tagoe as he defends his IBF Inter-Continental super-featherweight title to Nicaraguan Santos Benavides.
Ghana’s Samuel Amoako will also fight Martin Haikali of Namibia in a WBO Africa lightweight title fight, while Ebenezer Lamptey fights Eduado Flores of Ecuador in a WBO Africa super-lightweight contest.
The bill will be concluded by Ishmeal Aryeetey’s fight with Samuel Adotei for the national featherweight title.
