(FIFA.com) Thursday 2 June 2011

As early as the group stages of this year's Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup, it was already clear that Christian Twasam of Porto was a special talent. After dizzying opposing defences with his explosive pace and mazy runs, the Ghanaian-born attacker was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

Twasam found the net three times in all, including once in his side's penalty shoot-out victory in the final against FC Zurich. After lifting the coveted junior trophy, the modest young talent found time for an exclusive interview with FIFA.com.

FIFA.com: Christian, tell us about the final. How was it for you?
Christian Twasam: It wasn't easy. The match was very difficult but I managed to get to grips with the way our opponents played and I think I did my best.

Did you believe that your team could make it to the final and win the tournament?
Yes. I believed in the team, the coaches and the staff. I was hoping that we could make it to the final.

You were awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player. How did you rate your performances personally?
I was satisfied with my performances. I always try to give my best for the team and I'm really pleased that I won this award.

What are your main strengths?
My left foot is my stronger one and I'm also very fast.

How important has your coach been?
He is very important for me. He always believes in me, that I can do more. It works well.

What did you think of the tournament overall?
It is a very good tournament. As a player it's very good to participate in it.

Who is your role model?
Lionel Messi is my idol.

What is next for Christian Twasam? What is your dream?
I have my dreams, but I don’t share them with people. I keep my dreams to myself. The next step for me is to play for the Porto senior side.

almost 1 year to the date of the start of this thread, Atsu get's his first full cap and scores. Kinda reminds of me of the rise of Kwadwo Asamoah in the 2010 WCQ against Mali......

Kwadwo will only buck up in a more defensive role (see Angola 2010).

Zito lauds Atsu; He is our version of Messi
06 June, 2012

By Collins Atta Poku

Blacks midfielder Christian Atsu has drawn comparisons with Argentine ace Lionel Messi.
After his brilliant cameo appearance for the Black Stars aginst Lesotho in the 2014 World Cup Qualifers which saw him score his debut goal and assist Jordan Ayew for his second goal of the day, Christian Atsu has been receiving rave reviews from the length and breadth of the country.
The latest to wade into the singing of his praises is Coach Abdul Karim Zito the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach who managed the youngster during his formative years at the Gomoah Fetteh Feyenoord Soccer School of Excellence.
The trainer remarked in an interview with Kumasi-based radio station Kapital Radio that he is Ghana’s version of Argentine prodigy and Barcelona heartthrob Lionel Messi.
‘He is the Lionel Messi of Ghana. He has similar qualities like him and that was the first thing you see when you see him play. He was so fast at the academy that we could play him as a centre half. We had to push him through the classes as he was too good to be playing with his age mates,’ he added.
Coach Zito said he was happy with the way Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah was nurturing him and introducing him into the Black Stars.
‘Kwesi is doing very well by introducing him gradually into the Black Stars. He should continue playing the substitute’s role so as to boost his confidence and keep him away from unnecessary pressure,’ Karim Zito said.
Christian Atsu is part of the Black Stars team that is preparing to play the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola this weekend.
