Award delights Porto's Twasam
(FIFA.com) Thursday 2 June 2011

As early as the group stages of this year's Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup, it was already clear that Christian Twasam of Porto was a special talent. After dizzying opposing defences with his explosive pace and mazy runs, the Ghanaian-born attacker was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

Twasam found the net three times in all, including once in his side's penalty shoot-out victory in the final against FC Zurich. After lifting the coveted junior trophy, the modest young talent found time for an exclusive interview with FIFA.com.

FIFA.com: Christian, tell us about the final. How was it for you?
Christian Twasam: It wasn't easy. The match was very difficult but I managed to get to grips with the way our opponents played and I think I did my best.

Did you believe that your team could make it to the final and win the tournament?
Yes. I believed in the team, the coaches and the staff. I was hoping that we could make it to the final.

You were awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player. How did you rate your performances personally?
I was satisfied with my performances. I always try to give my best for the team and I'm really pleased that I won this award.

What are your main strengths?
My left foot is my stronger one and I'm also very fast.

How important has your coach been?
He is very important for me. He always believes in me, that I can do more. It works well.

What did you think of the tournament overall?
It is a very good tournament. As a player it's very good to participate in it.

Who is your role model?
Lionel Messi is my idol.

What is next for Christian Twasam? What is your dream?
I have my dreams, but I don’t share them with people. I keep my dreams to myself. The next step for me is to play for the Porto senior side.

He seems to have his head screwed on, deducing from his comments. Doesn't want to impose pressure on himself, so he would keep his ambitions to himself. Wise boy!!!!

Is this a FIFA competition for real?
Why no invitation to any African Team? Looks like a South America Europe thing for me

Nice one. Hopefully they will break into the Porto first team soon. Ebo Andoh is right footed, from what I remember, and Atsu is a leftie. Be like we have 2 wingers coming up :D
