Nigeria has been doing it with Onigbinde, Chukwu, Eguavoen, Amodu, Sia Sia and now Keshi. The bredas are now seeing the light. Nigeria has once again blazed the trail for you guys. :P

Appiah lays Black Stars marker

Date: 16-Apr-2012

Kwesi Appiah will announce his plans for the senior men's team, the Black Stars on Tuesday at his unveiling by the Ghana Football Association.

The ex-Ghana international and assistant coach of the Black Stars is keen on a successful spell in charge having been given a contract until the end of the 2014 World Cup.

Ahead of his presentation to the media at 2:00pm (14:00GMT), Appiah has stated that he will continue to work on the principle that the best players available will be required to lead the team at all times.

"I will always call the best players around. I have been monitoring the local league and have been seeing those excelling and doing well," Appiah told www.ghanafa.org on Monday.

"Getting a place into the national team will not be based on the geographical location where one plies his trade.

"I intend to make every position in the Black Stars very competitive. I have a target and to achieve that we need to put in the best and expect the best possible results," said the new Black Stars coach.

"We will be judged by whatever results we achieve at the end of the day and I intend to record success with the support of my technical team, the players, GFA, media and every Ghanaian."

Appiah had been the assistant coach of the Black Stars since 2008 and led the Ghana’s U-23 team to an historic gold medal at the 2011 All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.

Local players in form will get their chance – Black Stars coach
17 April, 2012

Ghana head coach Kwasi Appiah says locally based players who are in good form will get a chance to play for the Black Stars.

At a press conference to formally introduce him to the world as Ghana head coach, Appiah revealed that he had actively monitored the local league and with encouragement, some local players are ready to step up to the plate.

‘I have visited almost every Premier League centre and I have actively monitored local players. Some of them are very good and so they will definitely get their chance in the team if they remain in good form.’

Appiah hinted that he may have found a solution to the left back problem in the Black Stars, but stopped short of naming names.

‘As I said before, I will be looking for three players for every position and I have already monitored some players who are doing very well for the left back position.’

Appiah also noted that standards in the Premier League had risen over the last few years.

‘I have been impressed with what I have seen on my travels to the Premier League centres. The standards have improved and now there is careful buildup instead of ballooning the ball in the air.’

Only active players will be picked for the team – Appiah
17 April, 2012

Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah says only active players will be considered for selection into national squads.

At his unveiling as Ghana coach this afternoon, Appiah noted that player performance, the regular playing time of players and experience will be factors taken into consideration in selecting a winsome squad.

‘I will be looking at active players, the performance of players and players who have some experience as well.’

Appiah noted that he would only select the best players for the team because he will be solely responsible if there are any mishaps.

‘It is my head on the chopping block if anything happens so don’t worry. I will only select the best players for the Black Stars.’

Appiah also revealed his plan of getting three players for every position, adding that this will only deepen options.

‘I intend to get three players for every position, so that if at any point in time a player is not active, I can select another player to play.’

I have my own philosophy – Appiah
17 April, 2012

The new head coach of the Black Stars, Kwasi Appiah says he has his own philosophy he intends to use in coaching the team.

Answering a question at his maiden press conference as the Black Stars head coach, Appiah disclosed that his philosophy consists of defending and attacking as a team.

‘My philosophy for the team is organizing the team to attack and defend together.’

Appiah revealed that he has been monitoring both locally and foreign-based players, noting that he would select players who fit into his philosophy.

‘For some time now I have been monitoring players both here and abroad and with time I will select players who fit into my philosophy of playing football.’

Appiah to complete CAF License A badge in July
23 April, 2012

Footy-ghana.com understands that Black Stars head coach Kwasi Appiah will in July complete his badges for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) License A coaching certificate.

According to our sources, the CAF License A coaching license or its equivalent has now become the minimum requirement for any one coaching a national team on the African continent.

Appiah, who scored the highest marks in completing his badges for the CAF License B course, is likely to be given special dispensation by CAF to coach the Black Stars in June before completing his badges, based on his excellent record so far.

Appiah was officially unveiled a week ago as the new Black Stars coach on a two-year contract, after serving as the team’s assistant coach for the last four years.
