Accra — Information gathered by the Business Chronicle from high sources in government, indicate that Mr. John Kofi Mensah, current Deputy Managing Director of UniBank, is heading for the top job as the new Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB).
According to the source, the Council of State, last Monday, settled on Mr. Mensah for the position that has been hotly contested between him and his former course mate in Milan, Alhassan Andani, the Managing Director of Stanbic bank Ghana.
Mr. Alhassan Andani recently missed out on clinching the governorship of the Central Bank of Ghana, after industry experts and other predictions pointed to him as the man fit for the job, as Governor of Bank of Ghana.
John Kofi Mensah holds a MSc degree in Banking and Finance from FINAFRICA in Milan, Italy, and a B.A degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon. He has very extensive expertise in all areas of banking, especially Treasury Management and Foreign Operations.

Before joining UniBank, he worked at International Commercial Bank as the General Manager/Deputy CEO, and supervised the organic growth of the bank. He has previously worked with the erstwhile Bank for Housing and Construction as well as Securities Discount Company Limited.
When contacted, Mr. Kofi Mensah said if given the nod, he hopes to consolidate and re-engineer the corporate image of the bank, to better place it and to actively partake in the competitive banking industry. He said his vision is to enhance better service delivery, increase the banks market share and build a solid corporate governance structure for the bank.
Mr. Mensah, who industry experts say has a rich blend of expertise, in both corporate and retail banking, is expected to be officially announced later this week. He takes over from Lawrence Adu-Mantey. |
