CAF issues Nov. 30 ultimatum to Kotoko, Edubiase
06 November, 2012

Defending league champions, Asante Kotoko and FA Cup lords, New Edubiase have until November 30 to confirm their participation in next year’s African Club Championships.

Kotoko will participate in the prestigious CAF Champions League, whereas Edubiase will make their continental bow in the CAF Confederation Cup.

With the 2012 African Club Championships nearing its climax, GNA Sports can confirm that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has communicated to its affiliated National Associations including the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to confirm the participation of their respective clubs in the two competitions before the deadline.

Ghana is entitled to two clubs after failing to make it into the top 12-ranked National Associations permitted to enter two clubs each in the two competitions.

GNA Sports is reliably informed that the GFA has sent out the message to both Kotoko and Edubiase, and is awaiting their responses.

Till this stage, both clubs have made affirmed their decision to participate in the two competitions.

Either club can decide against participation at this stage but any such decision after the draw has been conducted will come with a fine and ban from appearing in future competitions.

Second-tier side Nania FC withdrew from the Confederation Cup after being drawn against FC Sequence, which came with a fine of 1,500 dollars and a three-year ban.

Meanwhile, the draw for the two competitions is expected to be held in Cairo, Egypt next month.

We need GH¢80,000 for second leg match – Abdul Salam Yakubu
Wednesday, 13th February 2013 - 220 views

By Stephen Amos - Tweet me @sheggss

The President of FA Cup holders New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu says the club needs an amount of GH¢80,000 to honour the second leg of its CAF Confederations Cup tie against Congolese side Diables Noir in two weeks’ time in Congo Brazzaville.

He told footy-ghana.com that the club now understands how Ghana’s biggest clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have struggled to survive in continental competition, adding that the club was preparing ahead of its first ever continental clash against the Congolese club on Sunday in Accra.

“We are preparing feverishly to host Diables Noir in Accra on Sunday. We need about GH¢80,000 for the away trip in two weeks’ time. We are doing everything not to put the nation into shame by withdrawing. We now understand how the big teams like Kotoko and Hearts have been suffering to survive playing in Africa competitions.”

Yakubu also added that the situation will not deter New Edubiase United from taking part in the competition, adding that financial support from institutions and individuals will be welcomed.

“However, we are not discouraged by these circumstances else we would have pulled out of the competition before this time. We welcome any form of support from well-meaning Ghanaians.”

Footy-ghana.com understands that New Edubiase United has petitioned the Ghana Football Association for financial support ahead of the second leg match.

The Bekwai-based club has also asked the GFA to communicate with the Congolese FA in order to find out when Diables Noir will arrive in Ghana.

By MTNFootball.com
Wednesday Feb 13, 10:50 +0200

New Edubiase players are ready for the Confederation Cup New Edubiase United will play their CAF Confederation matches in Accra, the club have confirmed.

The Gyemfis Park in Bekwai does not meet the requirements of the continent's football governing to host international matches.

The club could have played at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium and the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but decided to play in the capital.

"If we had decided to play in Obuasi or Kumasi, that would have been an added cost because we would have to fly teams from Accra to either Obuasi or Kumasi,'' Edubiase deputy CEO Alex Ackumey told MTNFootball.com

"We are praying the fans in Accra will show up to support this young team who are eager to make history."

Edubiase are making their debut in Africa.

Edubiase gross US$ 1,800 from gates in Confed Cup

By MTNFootball.comTuesday Feb 19, 06:37 +0200

New Edubiase United grossed 3,300 Ghana cedis (US$ 1,800) from the gates in their CAF Confederation Cup match played at the Accra Sports Stadium last Sunday.

That amount is more than 500 percent what they realize when they play their Ghana Premier League home matches at the Gyemfi’s Park.

The Bekwai-based team moved their continental matches to the capital to cut down cost and that seems to be a good idea for now.

The debutants beat Congolese side Diable Noirs 1-0 on their debut in Africa despite creating a lot of scoring chances.

Edubiase spent close to US$ 65,000 in hosting the preliminary round first leg qualifier. The return leg will be played in Brazzavile in a fortnight.

New Edubiase gets GHC2,000 ahead of CAF tie

Footy-ghana.com can confirm that Glo Premier League debutants, Amiduas Professionals have financially supported CAF Confederation Cup campaigners New Edubiase United with GHC2000 ($1000) ahead of their second clash with Congolese side Diables Noirs in Brazzaville this weekend.

Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Ahmed Nkrumah, together with some management members are of the view that this token will ease the burden of the cash trapped team ahead of their second leg clash in Congo.

Speaking to footy-ghana.com the Vice President of New Edubiase United Chris Ackummey paid a glowing tribute to Officials of Amidaus Professionals for their kind gesture.

“We were overwhelmed when we received the money from Amidaus on Friday. It will help us as you all know we have endured difficult times this year, in terms of money but we know this money will help us in so many ways. All I want to say is to give thanks to Nkrumah and the rest of the people at Amidaus who gave us this money. We will not let Ghana down when we travel to Congo for the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend,” he promised.

The Ghana Football Association had earlier given the club an amount of $20,000 towards defraying costs, but the Bekwai-based club still has to raise an amount of just under $60,000 in orde

Exclusive: Edubiase name final squad for Congo trip; Attobrah dropped
Wednesday, 27th February 2013

By Stephen Amos - Tweet me @sheggss

New Edubiase have dropped Captain Asiedu Atobrah from their 18-man squad for the return leg encounter of the CAF Confederation Cup tie against Diables Noir at the Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat in Brazzaville this Saturday.

The 18-year-old influential midfielder has been handed an indefinite ban for going AWOL since the 1-0 victory over the Congolese side at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Footy-Ghana.com gathers the captain was outraged by club President Abdul Salam Yakubu’s ‘verbal attacks’ during and after their slim win over Diables Noirs on February 17. The team was guilty of squandering chances. Attobrah has since not reported to training and missed Edubiase’s Glo Premier League game against Berekum Arsenals last weekend.

Edubiase will also not be with striker Ebenezer Ofori who has been permitted to travel with the Black Satellites for their pre-Africa Youth Championship camping in Italy.

The team will leave the Kotoka International Airport for Brazzaville on Thursday.

New Edubiase’s 18-man squad:

Goalkeepers (2): Salia Iddrisu, Eric Nii Baah

Defenders (6): Emmanuel Nti Mensah, Samed Ibrahim, Malik Tahiru, Iddrisu Yahaya, Abeiku Ainooson, Richard Adjei

Midfielders (5): Nasir Lamine, Abdul Samad Oppong, Sakyi Quaye, Alhassan Nuhu, Mamoud Suleman

Edubiase's continental campaign ends

Date: 03-Mar-2013

New Edubiase could not get past the preliminary round in their debut continental football appearance.

The reigning FA Cup winners were edged out 5-4 on penalties to Congolese side Diables Noirs on Saturday in Brazzaville after finishing with ten men following Mahmoud Suleman's second half dismissal.

Edubiase, who were leading 1-0 from the first leg in Accra lost by the same scoreline during normal time in the Congo capital before the tie was decided on penalties.

During the penalty shoot-outs, goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah made a save but Abdul Rahman and striker Adams Basit missed their kicks.

West African tests for Tunisia duo

03-13-2013

Zoom
Tunisian duo CS Sfaxien and Etoile du Sahel face daunting tests in this weekend’s first leg matches of the 1/16 th round of the 2103 Orange CAF Confederation Cup against West African opponents.

Sfaxien and Etoile, who both drew a bye at the prelims get their first feel of the second-tier continental club championship with home games against Gamtel and Onze Createurs of Gambia and Mali respectively.

The two clubs, both former winners of the competition find themselves in dicey situations against opponents ranked nowhere near the big guns of continental football.

Sfaxien, the most successful club in the history of the championship, with two triumphs, will battle it out with the Gambia FA Cup winners as they seek to make an impact this term. Elsewhere in the Mediterranean resort of Sousse, new coach of Etoile, Frenchman Dennis Lavagne will make his continental bow against the Malian visitors.

Lavagne, who had two successful stints with Cameroonian side, Coton Sport including guiding them to the final of the 2007 CAF Champions League, where they lost out to Al Ahly of Egypt, will be hoping to put the brakes on their guests to smoothen their passage to the next round.

Elsewhere, three former African champions, Ismaily (Egypt) and Moroccan rivals, Wydad Athletic Club and Royal Armed Forces are also favoured at their backyard. Ismaily, have a seemingly easy task against TCO Boeny of Madagascar in Ismailia.

Wydad, African champion in 1992 have a date with Togolese side AS Douanes whilst Royal Armed Forces will square Libyan side, Al Nasr in an-all Maghreb affair.

Gabonese torchbearers, US Bitam, authors of the biggest win ever in the history of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 17-1 romp of Desportivo de Guadalupe from Sao Tome and Principe at the previous round face their toughest test yet against Nigerian side, Heartland. The twice Gabonese champions travel to Owerri to taste the wrath of the Naze Millionaires.

Egyptian side ENPPI will lock horns with Kenyan league runners-up Gor Mahia whilst Nigeria’s Lobi Stars and Liga Muculmana from Mozambique square in Makurdi.

Ivorian giants, ASEC trek the neighbouring Burkina Faso city of Kadiogo to face RC Kadiogo, Motema Pembe will be at home to LLB Academic of Burundi whilst USMA of Algeria comes face-to-face with Cameroonian side Panthere in Algiers.

Sudanese side Ahly Shandy will be looking forward to improve on their debut performance last year against regional rivals Dedebit of Ethiopia in Shandy whilst Central African duo, Diables Noirs from Congo and Panthers from Equatorial Guinea will sort things out in Brazzaville.

Recreativo da Caala will be at fortress in Huambo against US Bougouni of Mali whilst Tanzanian side Azam travel to Monrovia as guests of Barrack Young Controllers FC of Liberia.

The second leg matches has been fixed for the weekend of April 5-7 with the winners advancing to the 1/8th round.

SUPERSPORT DRAW IN CONFEDERATION CUP ROUND OF 32

SuperSport United came away with a 0-0 draw with Petro Atletico in their Confederation Cup clash in Luanda, Angola on Sunday.
Matsatsantsa dominated the match, but could not convert those chances into a valuable away goal.

SuperSport kept Atletico’s attackers frustrated, setting a lot of offside traps.

Edwin Gyimah had the best chance of the half, when his shot from outside the box just before half-time went over the bar.

In the second half, Prince Hlela’s free-kick found Gyimah, but the Ghananian’s header was straight at the keeper.

On 53 minutes Petro were reduced to 10 men when Miguel was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Thabo Moloi.

On the hour mark a great through-ball by Ashley Hartog found Thabiso Nkoana but the speedy forward shot straight to the keeper.

And those two players were substituted for Sibusiso Zuma and Kermit Erasmus on 65 minutes.

The substitutes were straight into the thick of things, as Erasmus had a couple of shots on target, forcing a great save from the goalkeeper late on, before Zuma’s bicycle-kick hit the crossbar.

SuperSport host Atletico in the second leg on the weekend of April 5-7.

SuperSport line-up:

Williams Ronwen (goalkeeper), Moloi Thabo, Diouf Mor, September Thabo, Fransman Bevan, Hlela Prince, Gyimah Edwin, Mdluli Moffat, Hartog Hartog, Nkoana Thabiso (Zuma), Nyondo Atusaye (Erasmus)
